After Pain and Panic

painpanic-dusty-horse-copy After Pain and Panic’. 2001

Running time 3 minutes

The work extends real time to follow the washing of trot horses after the race. The candid footage is of a behind-the-scenes aspect of the race, which is a focal point in the Kellerberrin social calendar. Slowed down we see the sensuality of the water as it plays across the horses back. In contrast the down to earth manner of the horsemen and women as they go about their business. The work is shot from one position and implies the repetition of the activity beyond the frame. (The title refers to the name of one of the winning horses featured and is suggestive of the nervous energy of the race).

Shot in Kellerberin WA Australia, whilst artist in residence with IASKA.
