A site specific research project, that culminated in a live, installation event for the local community.
Commissioned for The Mansion House, Louth Lincolnshire by The Beacon Art Project.
People arrive to explore the building. They are surprised to find a familiar space transformed with light, color and sound. Before them is a long table, spread with vivid blue silk, and displaying an eclectic array of objects – flowers, fauna, books and vases, clocks and plates. The strains of ‘50’s dance music can be heard wafting from upstairs. The muttering of small talk fills the room, and long shadows appear as the light shifts. People are offered pencil and paper, and many begin to draw. Some write. The fresh flowers wilt and move in the hot studio lights and warm summer evening, whilst the fake remain ’fresh’. A collection of drawings is made.
And out of darkness came the hands that reach thro’ nature, moulding men.
Alfred Lord Tennyson, 1850. In Memoriam A. H. H.
