The Boardroom

Commissioned by The Bonnington Gallery, Nottingham. 1999

Dyson worked ‘9 – 5’ through a working week on the durational performance The Boardroom. Using scrap and found materials she crudely constructed a giant meeting table. Dyson dressed in a utilitarian suit, but with her breasts bound flat. The structure was fragile and unstable. The room became occupied by the paraphernalia of the office, in-trays, OHP’s, stationary, clocks. Each day was punctuated with a specific action with these materials. The room echoed with the sound of radios, voices at the table. The process was documented with accumulating Polaroid pictures. The work culminated in a meeting of the audience – seated at the table. The performance was accompanied and informed by an ‘in conversation’ situation between the artist and a local business woman.
