Asiatopia Festival, Bangkok. 2000
Everyone in Thailand wears flip-flop rubber thong shoes.
Everyone walks with a shuffling, heel first gait.
I enter the park wearing absurd big breasts and bottom.
From a shopping hold-all I take out flip-flop shoes and begin to construct giant, platform flip-flops, fixing them with tape and wire.
The audience laugh, then concentrate on the action.
Then I stand and attempt to walk.
I am unsteady and ungainly.
I am giant and clumsy. It is painful and disturbing.
